Codes for signboards and flyers

A house or the word OPEN on the board outside, linking to the listing. When the property sells, point the same sign at the next one.

Reuse the board

Editable links let one printed signboard serve every listing it goes up for.

See who scanned

Scan counts by day, country and device show which boards and flyers are working.

Print size

Signboards are read from a distance. A common rule of thumb is a code one tenth as wide as the scanning distance: 10 cm across for people standing a metre away. How the sizes were measured.

Who this is for

Agents and property managers who put codes on signboards, window cards and flyers: a house, the word OPEN or the agency's mark as the code, opening the listing, the inspection times or the application form.

Signboards outlive listings. The same board carries one property after another, so this is the use where an editable link pays for itself: repoint the code to the next listing and keep the board.

Where it goes and how big

A signboard is scanned from the footpath, one to two metres away. The rule from our tests is a code one tenth as wide as the scanning distance: 10 cm for a metre, 20 cm for two. Put the code at eye height and away from the board's edge, and avoid the glossy laminate agents like; a matte laminate scans in sunlight, gloss does not. Flyers and window cards are scanned from arm's length, where the stated minimum, about 4 cm, is enough.

Use the SVG or the PDF for boards, since the code is printed large and a PNG would need to be very big to stay sharp.

Static or editable

Static codes suit a single listing's flyer. For boards and window cards, use an editable link: repoint it when the property sells, pause it between listings, and see how many people scanned, by day, which tells you which boards and which streets work.

Questions

Can I reuse the same signboard for the next property?

Yes, with an editable link. Change the destination in your account and the printed code opens the new listing; the board stays as it is.

How big should the code be on a signboard?

One tenth of the distance people scan from: 10 cm for a metre, 20 cm for two. Print the SVG or PDF so it stays sharp at that size.

Does it work in direct sunlight?

Yes on matte laminate; gloss reflects the sky into the camera. Keep the white margin that the file includes.

Can I see how many people scanned the board?

With Pro, yes: scans by day, country and device for each code, with a CSV export.
